On December 13, 2003, at 8 p.m. local Iraq time in a remote farm house near Tikrit, the U.S. 4th Infantry Division apprehended World Public Enemy #1: former dictator and tyrant Saddam Hussein. The capture marks an end to three decades of iron-fisted rule over Iraq, and opens the door for a freer, more democratic nation. His Capture as seen by our men in uniform!

Vets are heroes too (Letters column Boston Herald 9/13/2002) As cold-hearted as it may seem, with the exception of the emergency personnel and heroic by-standers who assisted those in need, most victims perished due to happenstance, not heroism. What makes Sept. 11, 2002, more important than Oct. 23, 1983, April 19, 1995 and Oct. 12, 2000? Those are the dates of the attack on the Marine barracks in Beirut, the Oklahoma City bombing and the USS Cole bombing. While I appreciate everyone coming together to provide comfort, sympathy and financial relief to the families affected, I tend to reflect on how the society at large ignores persons who continually put their lives on the line and have even died to protect the freedoms of this great land. Being a former Marine, I am astonished that even in this relatively short year of the war on terrorism, we have lost service members in combat and no one I've heard of has anted up 1 cent to provide for those families. _ Anthony Caswell, Milford
